On Sunday March 14th I finally planted some trees. The holly and birch seedlings that I got in December have been planted! Hopefully they are the first of many. I’ve placed a marker on the Google map in the full article to indicate the location. I left the specifics out to protect the trees from being disturbed.I purchased some bamboo canes and some plant ties to lend them extra support. The birch is straight as a rod and has plenty of leaves already. The holly was at at an awkward angle and so needs a bit of help. I’ll post some photos up here when possible. The area is not that wild so I didn’t feel the need to give them extra protection from the elements or fauna.
I wasn’t sure about planting depths, but they already had some roots, so I just dug a hold to match the depth of the existing soil. I dug a triangular shaped hole as It seemed the thing to do. The shovel I had was quite broad so a square hole would have removed to much earth.
